About the Role

We're building something revolutionary at On the Beach – an intelligent digital companion that transforms holiday planning from stressful to joyous. Our customers want to feel excited about their upcoming holidays, not anxious, and that's where you come in.

As a Senior Software Engineer on our Holiday Experience team, you'll lead the technical charge in creating a product that anticipates needs, simplifies complexities, and unlocks extraordinary experiences for our customers. We're not just building another travel app – we're crafting peace of mind and delivering joy.

You’ll join our cross-functional team, working with engineers, product managers, product designers, data analysts, user researchers, and more to help people holiday better, and more often. You'll play a pivotal role in driving the evolution of our new App platform, working at the intersection of engineering, product and user experience.

What you’ll be doing day to day

This is a genuinely senior role. While you’ll be primarily focused within the Holiday Experience team, you’ll have significant ownership of our App platform – driving its maturation and evolution to align with our broader business and technical strategy. Your decisions will directly impact how our entire mobile experience evolves, and your architectural choices will set the foundation for years of growth. We’re looking for someone who instinctively balances technical excellence with business velocity, who can establish platform standards that enable other teams, and who has a proven track record of taking ownership and solving of complex problems.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

• Lead projects that require the work of multiple engineers, taking full ownership from conception to delivery
• Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a collaborative team culture
• Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems that power our mobile app experience
• Balance engineering excellence with speed to market through experimentation and tactical technical debt
• Work closely with product managers, designers, and data analysts to translate business goals into technical solutions
• Lead inclusive, constructive dialog with team members and related teams when disagreements arise
• Bring a system-wide view and design guidance to the team's architecture

We’re looking for full-stack capabilities across:

• TypeScript in a React and NodeJS context
• React/React Native for crafting beautiful user experiences
• NodeJS for our backend-for-frontend services
• AWS and Kubernetes for running our services

But don’t worry if you’re not an expert in these technologies! We’re much more interested in your ability to solve complex problems and build elegant solutions. Strong engineers with the right mindset can pick up new technologies quickly.

You'll be a great addition to our team if you have the following, knowledge and experience

• A passion for creating high-quality, user-focused digital experiences
• Previous experience leading technical delivery in an Agile environment
• A customer-focused mindset and ability to think from the user's perspective
• Ability to break down complex problems into manageable components and prioritise effectively
• Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, and other cross-functional teams
• Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working with on React Native apps
• A drive for continuous learning and keeping up with industry trends

What to expect from our interview process

We’ll start with a call with our Talent Acquisition team, followed by a 3 stage interview process, all on Microsoft Teams.

Ways of working
Our full time hours are 37.5 per week, but we don't have rigid working hours so you can find the working pattern that's right for you. We have core working hours between 10am - 4pm, so we can collaborate and enjoy the social side of work.

We also have hybrid working so we all work from home and from our Aeroworks office in Manchester City Centre. You’ll be in the office one day every two weeks, and you’re more than welcome to come in more if you’d like.
