UX Designer

On the Beach sends over 1.5 million people on their perfect beach holiday every year, and while the Covid-19 pandemic has caused disruption for the travel industry, we have not paused our ambition to become Europe’s leading online retailer of beach holidays. With our UX team at the forefront of our transformation to adapt to the changing landscape we and our customers find ourselves in, there’s never been a more exciting time to be On the Beach. Want to get involved?

We’re looking for:

UX Designers (Mid and Senior level)
For an immediate start to work remotely (for now at the least till September - then based out of our bespoke tech-hub in the heart of Manchester with flexible working options)

Salaries up to £50000 per annum depending on experience

Our UX team are committed to design solutions that give our customers the holiday buzz before they’ve even booked! As UX generalists, and core to the Product and Delivery functions, they are able to support the business in a variety of ways; from ideation and exploration, wireframes and prototypes and supporting our internal research team, to creating production ready user interfaces (UIs) and interaction specification documents.

  • Working closely with Product Managers and UX Researchers, you will use data and insight to inform all design decisions at every stage of your UCD approach.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and engineering peers to find solutions which balance customer need, viability and technical difficulty without compromising on the customer experience.
  • Produce all UX design documentation - from sketches, wireframes and prototypes to high quality UIs and interaction specification documents that reflect CX Principles, Design Patterns and Brand Guidelines.
  • Keep on top of trends and industry best practice and share regularly with the other UX designers to create a loop of continuous learning and an environment of positive, engaging discussion.

About You

You’re passionate about UX, design and new technology. You’re an explorer who knows the importance of understanding problems and backing up your design decisions with data. You see the customer experience holistically and understand how the work you produce fits the wider context for both the customer and the business. You’re an excellent communicator with many tools in your toolkit to help you convey complex ideas to a range of audiences.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record of experience in UX
  • A thorough understanding of usability best practice, ideally in an eCommerce environment and able to demonstrate experience of working through a user centered design (UCD) process.
  • Excellent eye for design, with evidence of strong fundamentals in layout, typography and information architecture
  • Familiar with using data to inform design decisions and where to source the right insights to help your team make progress
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other Designers, Researchers, Product Managers, Software Engineers and QA Testers
  • Some understanding of web and app development would be preferred; but it’s more important that you’re able to foster a great working relationship with those who write code, than be able to write it yourself
  • Experience of designing for customers with a range of technical needs - from cross-platform and different devices to assistive technology users (A11Y).
  • Understanding of Agile delivery and experience of Lean UX practices.
  • Familiar with software such as Sketch, Zeplin, Photoshop, Illustrator, Invision, Proto.io, Principle etc to create outstanding designs and prototypes.
