MSSQL Database Administrator

On the Beach are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL DBA to join our growing team in our fantastic new Manchester office, which is expanding to meet demand as a result of successful business growth over the last few years.

We are looking for a DBA to come and take control of our MS SQL estate to ensure performance, availability, and to help guide our Development teams work with the data in the best way.

The team works in a dynamic and agile fashion, meeting demand requirements from various teams throughout the business including working very closely with our Dev and Service Ops teams. We also promote opportunities to innovate during regular R&D days and dedicated hack weeks multiple times a year.

About You

This role would be suited to someone who has a depth of experience as a DBA with MS SQL in high capacity, high value production environments.

We are looking for someone who will performance tune our existing DBs, design our future data layer, and work with our Dev teams in order to ensure that our apps are performant, highly available and scalable.


The role of a Database Administrator is very varied, ranging from contributing to the design and implementation of large-scale projects, to troubleshooting daily support tickets from the business.

      Some of the key responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Administration of our customer and business facing production MS SQL databases, including planned maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Performance management and monitoring of our DB layer
  • DB design and planning
  • Business continuity of the DB environments including back-ups and replication
  • Review and management of database security


  • Extensive knowledge and proven experience of administrating MS SQL, including clustering, replication and backups
  • Knowledge of other database platforms such as MySQL, Mongo or Redis would be an advantage
  • The ability to comprehend and communicate clearly and effectively on a wide range of technical issues with people at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to apply analysis and problem-solving techniques to situations to provide fast and effective solutions.
